Things to Do, Sights to See
SEE THE GOATS!
Due to the extensive amount of wildfires in California, local governments introduced a low-tech method to help contain fires easier. These goats tend to graze upon woody shrubs and heavy brush - the kindling of a potential fire. A fire that has occurred in an area where goats have browsed, as opposed to areas where they have not, are much easier to contain, as well as significantly less expensive. |
WINE TASTING
Grape vines need a long, warm summer and a frost-free winter for optimal growth, which the climate of the chaparral provides. Wine from the Californian Napa Valley, Chile, Spain, Italy, South Africa, Australia, and Portugal, all make up the lists of top 10 wine regions in the world, and of course, are located in chaparral regions. |
Things to Avoid: DEATH BY FIRE
Wildfires are common in chaparral environments due to their dry, hot summers, and the amassing of dry shrubs with schlerophyllous leaves.
Many chaparral plant species even require some fire cue for germination. Due to wildfire suppression in California, wildfires have become much more rare, but larger and more of control. |
